For Landlords - New Legislation - Oct. 1, 2023
See the link below to a good article summarizing bill passed by legislature
this year and what this means for Landlords.
Highlights include:
- Limits on late fees
- Limits on application fees
- Return of security deposit deadline shortened to 21 days from 30
- ban on discrimination based on sexual orientation for small landlords previously excempt (if you rent out a room in your house you can no longer refuse applicants based on LGBTQ status)
- Limitations on Judicial postings of eviction cases
As an advocate for landlords (and a landlord myself), seeing more restrictions on landlords is frustrating and at times, infuriating.
But worse than that is seeing landlords get into trouble for not following the rules and being penalized for it. Please educate yourself on the new rules and comply with them and of course; if you have any questions about the rules and how to comply, feel free to reach out to me.
