Department of Banking Commissioner Howard Pitkin spent nearly 40 years of service with the State of Connecticut Banking Department.
With his leadership the Department of Banking took a lead role in helping consumers navigate the fallout from the mortgage crisis.
He also played an instrumental role in shaping the 2013 major restructuring of the Foreclosure Mediation Program.
The passage of Public Act 13-136, An Act Concerning Homeowner Protection Rights, streamlines the mediation process to ensure borrowers get to a more timely and fair resolution of their foreclosure issues.
During his tenure, Commissioner Pitkin has acted as an ex-officio on the boards of the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority and the Community Economic Development Fund. He has also served as American Savings Foundation Endowed Chair of Central
Connecticut State University School of Finance and as a director of a number of organizations.
Bernard Sweeney spent 30 years working for the U.S. Small Business Administration. He started in Springfield, Mass, Branch Office as a Business Development Officer; later, he took over the SBA Underwriting of new loans.
In 1998 he was promoted to Supervisor of Business Development in the Connecticut District Office. It wasn’t long before he took over the Portfolio Management Division. Shortly after this, Mr. Sweeney was in Charge of the SBA District Office Underwriting
of New Loans. After retiring from SBA in 2015, he opened his own consulting business and loan brokering firm.
Now, he is starting a Business Development Industrial Corporation, a non-bank lending firm located in Hartford, Connecticut.
