That being said, it does have a downside of being extremely heavy and can be damaged by certain food stains. Glass countertops have garnered recent support in the past couple of years, and why not, when they are heat resistant, and are very hygienic for the most part. Again, there is the problem of fingerprints being noticeable, and they can crack or chip, a real concern if you have kids.

Open shelves instead of upper cabinets are on the rise, as is sleek kitchen designs with pull out drawers to free up counter space from clutter by blenders and other appliances you will want to keep hidden. Microwaves are being shifted to areas under the countertop because they steal more counter space than any other kitchen device. It has been suggested that the revival of white appliances in cool glossy finishes are on the upswing, too.

Bathrooms are going for a calm, spa inspired or coastal vibe. Creams, white and grays can be expected, as waterfall shower heads, floating sinks, glass tiles, heated floors and larger windows. Japanese minimalism is an eco-friendly trend that is growing, using soaking tubs in the middle of the bathroom, and cabinets hidden behind large mirrors for storage. Arranging for minimal amount of objects to be placed on the counters to prevent clutter is supposed to bring positive energy into the space.

So keep your eyes out for these new changes and don’t be surprised when you see these items start appearing in the stores, and on your favorite store’s shelves.
