Do you ever find yourself saying:
Me too! I get excited at the beginning of the project… not so excited in the middle, and thrilled at the end.
The day of Blizzard Nemo (38 inches of snow!), I walked down to the beach. I had never seen so much snow coming down. It was “raining” snow… that’s how much of it there was.
So I stood under a porch for cover and stared out to sea. At first everything was grey. And then I noticed …. birds swimming on the water!
Here I am freezing … and they are swimming!
And then I noticed the seagulls. They were flying up in the air, dropping clam shells on the rocks. picking them up, and dropping the clam shells again, and repeating the process, until they could eat the clam inside.
Over and over again. They swooped down, picked up a clam, dropped it from 10 feet in the air onto the rocks, repeated the process until they got food. Then they floated on the water or flew away or hung out on the beach.
And then I got it. The “light bulb” went off in my head.
Every day for them is the same. They don’t say:
Can you imagine if Mr. or Mrs. Seagull said any of this? They would starve!
And the truth is … if you don’t do the repetitive tasks, you will starve also.
At a recent CT REIA Women’s REIA, we asked our most successful women entrepreneurs to share their secrets to success. One woman, close to 80 years old, and owner of some 500 single family houses, asked the room:
How many of you want to make $100,000 this year?
Of course, almost everyone of the 65 women in the room raised their hand. And then she said, talk to 100 people per week, and you will make $100,000 or more… even if they are cold calls. It is really that simple.
Does that sound like a lot of work? Of course it does.
You will be excited at the beginning of the project… not so excited in the middle, and thrilled at the end when you cash those checks.
And isn’t it a whole lot easier to do this than what the seagulls have to do?
So next time, you start to say: “I don’t feel like it” think of the seagulls and be grateful you don’t have to fly up in the air over and over to eat.
Be grateful that you can eat by:
And GET TO WORK
